Biography
Barbara Gamble is a Canadian artist with an established professional career. She is a respected community builder and cultural advocate.
Barbara began her academic art studies in the 1970’s, focusing on painting and sculpture. She continued to study and create art while self-employed, producing cultural events. After obtaining an award-winning BFA from the University of Ottawa in the 1990s, she committed to a full-time art practice.
From urban to wilderness settings, elements of the Canadian landscape have been a consistent subject in Barbara’s work. Her oil painting process involves the meticulous, multi-layering of colored waxes, creating luminous surfaces and ephemeral landscapes. Her paintings in oil, watercolour or mixed media, provide insights into the specifics of place, elements of time and memory, and expressive glimpses into ideas of nature.
Barbara’s artwork has been shown in galleries across Canada and in the US. A career highlight was a three month, solo exhibition of her work at The Canadian Museum of Nature: Barbara Gamble: Natural Affinities.
Barbara’s work is held in public, corporate and private collections including The Canadian Museum of Nature, The Ottawa Art Gallery, The City of Ottawa, Air Canada, The Business Development Bank of Canada, Brookfield Renewable Power.
